Welcome to the National Altar Guild Association Website

The purpose of the National Altar Guild Association (NAGA) is to assist parish, diocesan, and provincial altar guilds through information, resources, and communication including a quarterly newsletter—the Epistle.

By making itself aware of the great diversity among us Episcopalians, by staying abreast of liturgical changes not only in ceremony but also in the furnishings of worship, by helping solve contemporary altar guild problems, by spreading the word about who knows what "in altar guild country," NAGA is the center of the altar guild network.

The altar guilds "out there" assist NAGA with its on-going projects such as making stoles and chasubles for the chaplains of the armed forces and rounding up articles for its regular gift to General Convention — an outstanding Ecclesiastical Art Collection.

Please help us find the right people to continue the leadership of the National Altar Guild Association.

The National Altar Guild Board will meet at St. John Baptist, Mendham, NJ, May 1-4, 2008. The nominating committee will arrive on May 2 to begin preliminary work on the selection process. Please download the form below and send us your nominations by Labor Day.

Six positions will be open in 2009 at the National Meeting in Anaheim:
  • President
  • 1st Vice-President/Chairman of the National Meeting
  • 2nd Vice-President/Membership Chairman
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Nominating Committee Chair for 2012
Please keep in mind that our By-Laws require any who holds office be a member of the Episcopal Church and also a member in good standing of the National Altar Guild Association. There are more practical matters as well: all our records are computerized, so those nominated for positions that require knowledge of computers must have it, especially is this so for the Membership Chair. A Treasurer must also have financial knowledge; a secretary, skills in listening and in note-taking; the 1st Vice President must have organizational skills and knowledge of speakers and current trends. The President must be skilled in all of the above, with the ability to be the focal point of the organization and to deal with religious and secular problems that may affect the organization.

We are depending on you to help fill these slots with the best people possible, and to remember that those we choose must adhere to the Conflict of Interest Statement of the Episcopal Church that says no one can hold an office that would enhance her/his business interest.
