Friend, with a warm smile you greeted me
And invited me
through the Sacristy door;
Sacred vessels you placed in my hands
And bid me
cupboards and drawers to explore.
To care for linens you patiently taught,
With loving hands
to iron and fold.
Vestments and hangings you showed me, too,
And helped me
polish the silver and gold.
In awe I wondered would I ever learn
Chasubles were
worn, ciboriums held bread.
Your gentle encouragement kept me afloat.
Thank you dear
friend for I have been led
Into a deeper spirituality, endowed by you!
We all have that special someone who mentored us in the ways
of ministry through altar guild service. They “endowed” us with their
knowledge, nurtured us, and became a friend. Give a gift to the Endowment Fund in their name .
